Only a handful of sauceboats in this style exist, I now know of four. The basic shape is that of the cos lettuce sauceboat but there is no leaf moulding. Instead there is a wide moulded border round the rim and leaf garlands surround the plain cartouche which is painted with the ‘Staghunt pattern’. A further similarly moulded example in the Ashmolean is painted with European figures in a landscape.
The sauceboat is 21.5cms long. A section of the foot has been off and neatly re-stuck.
Illustrated in my book, British Porcelain Sauceboats of the 18th Century, Figures 190 and 191.
